mily Fisher Charter School opened in 1998 as a middle school
with 60 students. The school began as a 6th - 8th grade
facility and has since added grades 9-12 over the last 6
years. The total enrollment is now 255 students. EFCS is
only the second traditional high school in the Trenton area.
At the present time, EFCS has 60 employees who are
determined to instill a passion for learning in each of the
students they are entrusted with. At EFCS we believe all
students despite their educational history deserve a quality
education. The disruptive student often an outcast is sought
after with great determination so that the educational gap
they may already have does not continue to grow.
Our approach to education is a mixture of traditional and
non traditional. Our students for the most part have
dismissed the premise of learning for the sake of learning.
While learning for the sake of having a brighter future is
too distant for many of our students to consider. We have
determined we must teach our students in the present for the
present as well as giving them a reason to plan for the
future. This is achieved by following the NJCCS as well as
offering, interscholastic and intramural sports, an
occupational preparation program, restaurant program, and an
extensive character education program. Most importantly the
school is determined to be “sold out” for the best interest
of the students on an individual basis.
Each year we attempt to improve on the past year. This year
we have made great strides in the occupational preparation
program. We have established a contract with the University
of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. This will allow our
students to earn college credits, as well as provide our
students who are interested with foundational knowledge in
medicine and dentistry. EFCS has also upgraded our
technology in the special education department in order to
meet the various needs these students have.
We are proud to be a charter school in Trenton, NJ. We
recognize the challenge we face but realize with the support
of the students, parents, teachers, faculty, community and
government our school will be a success.
